Ford has never been shy about big engines. Across seven decades of the iconic F-Series trucks, a handful of powerplants stand out simply for their sheer size. Here are the five largest-displacement engines Ford has offered in the lineup.
5. 6.7L Power Stroke (406 Cubic Inches)
The 6.7L Power Stroke V8 has powered Super Duty trucks since the 2011 model year and remains the benchmark diesel in the segment. For years, Ford offered both a Standard Output and High Output version. Starting with the 2027 model year, the High Output is the only 6.7L on the order sheet, rated at 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque, the strongest diesel output Ford has ever put in a pickup.

4. 6.8L Triton V10 (415 Cubic Inches)
The 6.8L Triton V10 is one of the rare V10 engines to ever see mass production outside a supercar. It ran from 1999 to 2019 in the Super Duty, Excursion, and select E-Series vans, prized for its low-end grunt as a towing option. Output ranged from 275 to 362 horsepower with as much as 457 lb-ft of torque, depending on the model year and application.

3. 6.9L IDI V8 (420 Cubic Inches)
Built by International Harvester, the 6.9L IDI V8 ranks third in size but near the bottom in output. This naturally aspirated diesel ran in the F-250, F-350, and E-Series from 1983 to 1987, producing 170 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque. It laid the groundwork for every Ford diesel that followed.

2. 7.3L (445 Cubic Inches)
Ford has fielded two very different 7.3L engines over the years. The original 7.3L Power Stroke diesel ran from 1994 to 2003 and remains a cult favorite among diesel loyalists, producing 235 to 250 horsepower and 500 to 525 lb-ft of torque. It was the last Ford diesel built before emissions regulations reshaped the industry.
Today, the 7.3L badge belongs to the 7.3L "Godzilla" gas V8, which debuted in the 2020 Super Duty. For the 2026 model year, it produced 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. With the 6.8L V8 discontinued for 2027, the Godzilla now stands alone as the Super Duty's only gas engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque under Ford's updated emissions calibration. Still, plenty of power for a naturally aspirated pushrod V8, and enough to earn second place on this list.
1. 7.5L / 460 Big Block (460 Cubic Inches)
Nothing tops the 460 Big Block V8. This is the largest displacement engine Ford ever put in an F-Series truck, and one of the most iconic in the brand's history. The 460 powered heavier-duty F-Series trucks from 1968 to 1997, earning a reputation as a strong but thirsty workhorse.
Output swung wildly across its lifespan thanks to shifting emissions standards and changes in how horsepower was measured, starting around 365 carbureted horsepower, dropping as low as 208 horsepower, and finishing its run around 245 horsepower once fuel injection arrived.
Pedal Commander®: Easiest Way to Wake Up Your Ford Truck
If you own a Ford F-Series truck from model year 2011 onward, the Pedal Commander® throttle response controller is the simplest accessory to wake up its throttle response. Whether your truck is a workhorse Super Duty, a humble F-150, or one of the wilder Raptors in the line up, Pedal Commander® is the best plug-and-play upgrade for it.

Pedal Commander® throttle response controller connects between the accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS) and your vehicle’s harness and intercepts the throttle signal. The unit modifies the sluggish factory throttle mapping to give your F-Series the instant throttle response needed to move these beasts.
Customize the Throttle Response for Your Driving
With 4 modes (Eco, City, Sport, and Sport+) and 36 total settings, you can customize the response to fit your driving needs.
- Save fuel by up to 20% or get better traction on off-road conditions in Eco mode.
- City mode delivers a one-to-one response for everyday driving.
- Sport and Sport+ modes unlock the most responsive throttle available for more confident towing & hauling, or for performance driving in your Raptor.
Each mode is customizable with 9 levels, so you get 36 different throttle curves.
Easiest Install You'll Ever Do
Installation is a 15-minute DIY job that you can easily tackle in your garage or driveway. Simply let your truck to shut off completely with the keyfob away, unplug the stock pedal sensor connection, and install the Pedal Commander® in line.
Add an Extra Layer of Security to Your Ford Truck
You can either use the compact and sleek controller or stash it away and use the free mobile app. The app unlocks even more features, and the Anti-Theft is only one of them.
The built-in Anti-Theft feature allows you to disable the gas pedal entirely, turning the module into a seamless kill switch for your throttle pedal. You can subscribe to the service, try it FREE for 14 days, and keep using it for $0.99/month or $9.99/year. That’s an affordable price to pay for an unmatched peace of mind!
Warranty-Safe Ford F-Series Upgrade
Unlike a permanent ECU tune or an irreversible aftermarket mod, the Pedal Commander® is a stealth and undetectable way to improve your F-Series. It does not interfere with the ECU, leave diagnostic flags, or cause any issues once it's properly installed and operated correctly.
With consecutive SEMA awards, certificates from top authorities, and over 18,000 5-star ratings from countless happy drivers, the Pedal Commander® throttle response controller is a 50-state-legal and CARB-compliant upgrade that makes a night-and-day difference.
